Fitzrovia IT – Our Commitment to Employee Success

Finding a company that not only values its employees but nurtures their professional growth is like discovering a hidden gem. At Fitzrovia IT, we take immense pride in our approach to fostering talent - our commitment to promoting from within. In an era where career progression can often feel like a distant goal, we’ve made it a cornerstone of our company culture.

We believe that our success is fundamentally connected to the success of our employees. We recognise that people are our most valuable asset, and the heart of any organisation lies in the dedication, passion, and expertise of its workforce. This philosophy has led us to develop a robust internal promotion system that identifies and cultivates talent from within our team.

But what sets Fitzrovia IT apart? How does our commitment to internal promotion translate into real-world career advancements for our team members? To answer these questions and delve deeper into our employee-centric culture, we sat down with one of our success stories, Josh. Here is our interview with Josh, where he shares his journey and experiences with Fitzrovia IT, shedding light on how our commitment to promoting from within has shaped his career with us.

The Interview

Hi, please could you introduce yourself, and tell us about your role at Fitzrovia IT?

So, I am Josh, I am 26 and I’ve been with Fitzrovia IT for 3 years. I am currently an escalations agent, and I am moving to the projects team as a PDE (project design engineer).

What are your hobbies/what do you like getting up to outside of work?

I’m a massive football fan, my team is Ipswich Town.

You are doing well at the moment!

Second in the Championship table, we will take that for now! I love travelling when I have the time, I have been to almost 50 countries. Recently I’ve been on a big trip travelling across South Africa, Lesotho and Eswatini! Also, I am a big fan of American Football; I play Flag football (non-contact football).

Who’s your team?

Pittsburgh Steelers.

Nice! How do you find your work/life balance?

I find it is good honestly. It is nice to have the hybrid work option, so I've been able to work from home when I've needed to. So, for me, I like to work at home on Mondays, and then I come into the office for the rest of the week. Also, it’s nice to do events with people from work, outside of work hours. So next week we have football, and then other social events like work drinks and karaoke.

Looking forward, do you have any goals for 2024 in your work or personal life?

My aim for 2024 is to settle into my new team and do as well as I can in my new role.

What motivated you to join Fitzrovia IT?

I am originally from Ipswich, and the opportunity to work in London at Fitzrovia IT came up. My first year was during the COVID lockdowns, so I didn’t end up moving here during that period. I worked remotely, which was beneficial at the time. In 2021 I moved to London permanently. Every day brings up different challenges which makes the job enjoyable.

Ok, thank you. Now we are going to talk about personal growth and development. So, how has Fitzrovia IT help with your personal growth during your time here?

We have been given training for software exams, so I have been able to do the MS-500, which is the Microsoft 365 Security Administration exam, AZ-900 (Microsoft Azure Fundamentals Exam), and the SC-300 exam (Microsoft Identity and Access Administrator). All of these were funded by Fitzrovia IT, which was great, as the company backed me to work for them and gain the certifications.

How have you found the transition from one role to another within Fitzrovia IT? Would you recommend it to your colleagues, and how was the company with you?

It feels like it has been in the works for a while. It has felt like the progression was quite natural, as the dialogue between myself and Fitzrovia IT has been open. I would definitely recommend it to other members of the team if they felt like it was the right thing for them. I think because I have been supported previously it made the change easily.

How so?

From my first year starting as an incident agent to progressing into escalations, these transitions have always been supported from above and actually encouraged, so that has all gone really well so far. I think having a good relationship with people from other departments and the management has meant that interdepartmental changes can happen, and they are facilitated through the extra activities we get up to as previously mentioned. We all have played football together, we have enjoyed the Summer and Christmas Parties together, so we have all got on with each other. Equally, in the office, we have a good working environment, so we have been able to communicate easily in the previous months, which has ultimately led to my changing roles.

That leads me to my next question. How do you find the company culture at Fitzrovia IT?

Yeah, I would say there is a great culture at Fitzrovia IT. We socialise with each other at work events and outside of work. This translates into the office, as we get on as people, which means that we also work well together. We can communicate with each other when getting work done, as well as enjoying ourselves as we do it.

How do you find Fitzrovia IT foster a sense of community and belonging among its employees?

I think the company is keen to employ people who are the right fit in terms of personality as well as technically speaking. They want people who are willing to join in with each other and buy into the same ethos. As well as the previously mentioned activities, there are things like free breakfasts on Wednesdays, which encourage people to come in and engage with each other face-to-face. The new office has been great for this as well, The Fitz team is always growing so the new space is perfect for this.

Ok, thank you. In the next few years is there anything you would like to achieve at Fitzrovia IT?

I haven’t got a time frame for this, but I would like to specialise in something. I know this is vague but truthfully, I am unsure what this may be. I would love to be the specialist in a department, and somewhere within the company that is clearly expanding. I am hopeful for this because the company is continually growing, and they have always facilitated its employees when they aspire to specialise in something new or gain accreditations in their desired field.
