London leading the way for Remote Working

London based businesses are leading the charge in terms of Remote Working.

According to research conducted by telecommunications company Powwownow, London businesses are using more advanced technology to allow workers to be more flexible when working outside of the office.

Research found that two thirds of business leaders in the capital grant staff access to smarter working. In the UK, the average number of hours spent working remotely, on a weekly basis, is 2 hours and 34 minutes. London businesses however are spending an average of 3 hours and 31 minutes working remotely.

With an average daily commute of 1 hour 16 minutes per journey, Londoners have the longest commutes in the UK.

Having the ability of working from home has been proven to be beneficial to the health and well-being of individuals and some will argue, increases productivity due to a happier and healthier workforce.

Jason Downes, Managing Director of Powwownow said, “Companies in the UK are beginning to wake up to the fact that the brightest British talent expects different things from their employers compared to 10 years ago, namely flexible working and being graded on output not time spent in the office.”

“With technology so readily available, there is little other than tradition in the way of offering all employees flexible working. Although London is currently reacting to this change at the fastest pace, it will no doubt only be a matter of time before the rest of the UK comes to embrace this same approach to smarter working.”
