Defence Cyber Certification
Supporting cyber resilience across the UK defence supply chain.
What is DCC?

Defence Cyber Certification, known as DCC, is the cybersecurity certification framework developed by the Ministry of Defence and IASME for UK defence suppliers. The scheme gives defence organisations a clearer way to evidence cyber resilience, rather than relying on inconsistent or informal assurance processes.
DCC supports the Ministry of Defence’s wider Cyber Security Model by helping suppliers demonstrate that they meet the required cyber controls for their role in the defence supply chain.
Fitzrovia IT achieved DCC accreditation by meeting the requirements set out by the scheme and demonstrating the capability to support organisations through assessment and certification. IASME licenses and assures DCC Certification Bodies, while Assessors must be trained and qualified to assess against the DCC standard.
The process reflects both technical competence and an understanding of the defence sector’s security expectations.
For clients working in, or supplying into, defence, DCC provides a recognised route to stronger cyber assurance. It helps organisations understand what evidence they need, what controls apply to them, and how to approach certification with more confidence.
Working with Fitzrovia IT gives clients access to guidance from a provider that understands the certification process, the evidence requirements, and the importance of getting defence cyber assurance right.
The benefits to your business
Build trust within the defence supply chain
DCC gives prime contractors, partners, and procurement teams clearer assurance that your organisation takes cybersecurity seriously and can meet defence sector expectations.
Understand your cybersecurity responsibilities
The framework helps clarify which controls, policies, and evidence apply to your organisation based on the type of work you carry out within the defence supply chain.
Strengthen your overall cyber resilience
Preparing for DCC encourages better security practices across your business, helping reduce risk from phishing, ransomware, unauthorised access, and supply chain threats.
Improve readiness for defence opportunities
Many defence contracts now require stronger evidence of cybersecurity controls. DCC helps organisations demonstrate readiness when bidding for work or renewing supplier relationships.

-
Who needs DCC certification?
Any organisation working within the UK defence supply chain may need to meet Defence Cyber Certification requirements. This includes IT providers, manufacturers, engineering firms, software companies, consultants, and subcontractors supporting Ministry of Defence projects. Prime contractors increasingly expect suppliers to demonstrate cyber assurance before contracts are awarded or renewed.
-
What is the difference between DCC and Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a baseline cybersecurity certification designed for organisations across all sectors. Defence Cyber Certification is specifically focused on defence supply chain security requirements and aligns with the Ministry of Defence Cyber Security Model. Some organisations may require both certifications depending on contractual obligations and the sensitivity of the work involved.
-
Is DCC mandatory for defence suppliers?
DCC requirements depend on the type of work being carried out and the level of cyber risk associated with that work. While not every supplier currently requires certification, many defence organisations and prime contractors now expect stronger evidence of cybersecurity compliance from their supply chain partners.
