Windows 7 is a Microsoft Windows operating system released commercially in October 2009. It is on the market in 3 versions: Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate. However, Starter, Home Basic, and Enterprise editions are available in some markets as well.
Support for Windows 7 ended in January 2015 but was later extended and will now end today, (January 14th, 2020). Businesses that fail to switch before then will open themselves up to security risks and software incompatibilities that will become increasingly difficult to resolve.
With the recent ransomware attack on Travelex, businesses need to ensure that they do not leave themselves open to similar attacks. Unfortunately, those that fail to make the switch from Windows 7 will be at an increased risk.
However, despite Microsoft urging companies to move over to Windows 10, a vast number of companies are yet to do so. According to a Gartner market forecast, only 75% of professional PCs will be on Windows 10 by 2021.
Switching from Windows 7 to Windows 10 is relatively straightforward. Once you’ve established whether or not your computers are compatible with Windows 10, you can begin to decide your next steps.
If your PC isn’t able to support Windows 10, then you will need to replace it. However, if it can, then you’ll need to migrate to the newer version, making sure to not lose any data or experience any downtime. You will also want to ensure that the new installations are configured correctly for maximum security and productivity.
